New podcast out now: Presentation anxiety is rarely about the presentation. It’s your brain shouting “danger” when all you’re doing is standing up to speak. Drop a ?? if that hits home, or tag the person who keeps saying “I’m just bad at presenting.” Dr Lisa Tyrer said something I loved: CBT helps you notice the pattern, calm the body, and challenge the thought before it turns into a full panic spiral.
A few simple things can change everything:
Slow your breathing out to tell your brain you’re safe.
Notice 5 things you can see, hear, or feel to pull yourself back.
Ask, “Is that actually true?” when your inner critic gets loud.
And honestly?
You do not need a perfect talk. You need a human one.
A bronze-standard talk that helps people is still a win.
Save this for your next presentation, interview, or high-stakes conversation.
What’s the first thing your body does when nerves kick in?

From Lee’s YouTube: Ep 54: A Late Night Chat with Larry Long & Lee from Leeds! Top Tips for Speaking & Business Growth

07/09/2026

Larry Long with Lee from Leeds! A late-night chat with Larry Long Jr, a professional speaker from North Carolina who ended up staying with Lee, so once the day was done, they sat down and just talked.

They cover a lot. Why he takes his family and his golf clubs when he travels. How he went from IT to running a baseball academy that went bust to 16 years in software sales before speaking finally clicked. What he actually means when he says he “serves” his audience. And why he kept a weekly motivational video going for over five years, 316 episodes, through the pandemic and beyond.

Toward the end we get into practical stuff for speakers: finding your people, when to speak for free (and when not to), and why relationships matter more than almost anything else in this business.

A proper late-night chat. Some laughs, a bit more depth than you might expect.

(PS It is good to check out the diagrams first (https://growthbyvisuals.com/) or watch the video too on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/user/leejacksonspeaker) – all links are here (https://leejackson.org/links?) )

Listen out for a 20% discount code too near the end! Result.

Are you overcomplicating your message without even realizing it? Here’s how a simple visual can change everything.

I met Hidde Douna from @growthbyvisuals ( https://growthbyvisuals.com (https://growthbyvisuals.com/) ) on social media — a guy who’s cracked the code on turning complex topics into easy-to-digest visuals. His secret? Simplicity and design.

He started creating visuals just for fun — then realised they help him remember ideas better and connect with his audience. Now, he’s building a library you can buy to transform your presentations, coaching and content.
The key takeaway? Less is more. Simplify to amplify — and watch your message resonate deeper.

In this podcast conversation, Speakers and Presentation experts Dr. Simon Raybould and Lee Jackson explore the art and science of storytelling in presentations. They discuss the importance of relatable stories, the techniques for capturing and recording them, and the impact of storytelling on audience engagement. Dr. Raybould emphasizes the need for stories that resonate with the audience rather than grand heroic tales, and he shares practical tips for speakers to enhance their storytelling skills. The discussion also touches on the moral implications of storytelling in the speaking industry and the role of research and technology, including AI, in improving storytelling techniques.

Takeaways

Stories should be relatable to the audience.

Big epic stories can reduce self-efficacy.

Finding stories requires observation and reflection.

Recording stories helps in retaining them.

Engagement comes from connection, not just entertainment.
